English

English is a West Germanic language that developed in England during the Anglo-Saxon era. As a result of the military, economic, scientific, political, and cultural influence of the British Empire from the 18th to the 20th century and the United States since then, it has become a common language throughout the world. It is used extensively as a second language and as an official language in commonwealth countries and international organizations.

English as a school course refers to English literature. Despite the variety of authors of English Literature, works of William Shakespeare remain paramount throughout the English-speaking world.
