How to Solve Algebraic Inequalities
Description
A detailed tutorial on the solving of basic inequalities. Step by step tutorial including several examples of how to solve inequalities for reference. Knowledge of solving inequalities is a requirement for grade school algebra.
Overview
Inequalities are nothing more than a normal inequality with a variable. You solve a linear inequality just like you would solve for a regular equation. The only difference is that instead of finding out what x is equal to, you find out what x is greater than or less than. There is one rule for solving inequalities that you do not find when solving a normal equation. When you must multiply or divide by a negative number, your sign is switched. In this case, “sign” means greater than or less than. You switch it to the opposite sign.
Example: -2x < 3 is turned into x > -3/2
