Introduction to Regular and Irregular Polygons
Description
This video shows pictures of different types of polygons, and labels them as either regular or irregular. It gives the different traits of both regular polygons and irregular polygons, and shows how and why they are different. It also identifies what a polygon is. Many different examples are provided in the video.
Overview
Polygon is probably a term you\’ve heard before. It refers to a shape – actually, it refers to many different shapes. A polygon is a shape that consists of at least three straight lines that connect to form either a regular or an irregular shape. We have all seen polygons before – Squares and triangles are both polygons. So are pentagons (a 5-sided figure), hexagons (a 6-sided figure), and octagons (an 8-sided figure). Any of these that have sides of the same length and angles measuring the same degrees are called regular polygons. There are also such things as irregular polygons. When a shape has different sized lines and different types of angles, it is called an irregular polygon.
