Overview
A fractal is a geometric shape that can easily be split into parts. Each part is really just a small version of the whole. Fractals are often very rough or fractured looking shapes, which is how they got their name. The common features of a fractal is that it has a fine structure at small scales, it is an irregular shape, it is self-similar, and it has a recursive definition as well as a simple one. One of the most famous and well-known fractals is the Mandelbrot set.

Definition of an Operand

Overview
An operand can be any number. However, a number is only called an operand when there is some kind of operation being performed on it. There are simple operands and complex operands. A simple operand is what people call an operand – just one number. A complex operand is an operand that consists of an operation inside it, and therefore has at least 2 operands inside the first operand.

Introduction to the Fourier Series

Overview
The Fourier series is very common in differential equations and partial differential equations. What a Fourier series does is decompose a periodic function into the sum of simple oscillating functions, like sine and cosine. Fourier series are part of Fourier analysis and were first introduced by Joseph Fourier to solve the heat equation. So another name for the Fourier series is the heat equation, although they are considered different things. Both the heat equation and the Fourier series are partial differential equations.
