Overview

The heat equation is a partial differential equation that describes the distribution of heat or the variation in temperature.  The heat equation can be expressed as:

\frac{\partial u}{\partial t} -k\left(\frac{\partial^2u}{\partial x^2}+\frac{\partial^2u}{\partial y^2}+\frac{\partial^2u}{\partial z^2}\right)=0

It can also occasionally be expressed as \frac{\partial u}{\partial t} = k \nabla^2 u
